Garden Surprise
This past week the weather has been glorious, not too hot, with a bit of wind to help keep the bugs at bay. I decided to start to weed the vegetable garden in the hopes of planting some seeds soon. I took a hoe and manually thrashed about, clearing a bit over 3/4 of the garden, which unfortunately led to a large, already-popped blister on the base of my left thumb. Ouch!
While out there, I happened so see among the weeds some lettuce starting to grow! Since I haven't planted any seeds yet, this was a total but welcome surprise. Our lettuce bolted and went to seed last summer, so I guess before I pulled it, some of the seeds got into the soil and survived the winter.
Here are a couple of shots, right after I saw them.
You can see from the second photo that they are coming up in the approximate area of the two rows where they grew last year.
AND, there was another lovely treat - this small flower at the end of one row of lettuce babies. A violet, maybe? I'm not very versed in flower gardening. Pretty, though, isn't it?
On the weaving front, I did manage to plot out my next project in the weaving software, and, ahem, measured out the length needed on my warping board. The weather's just been so nice, and I've been so motivated to do outdoor things that it's been really hard to make myself get back to weaving tasks. I am determined to get on with it! Maybe once the more structured back-to-work life restarts tomorrow....
